IMDB has a keyword search, and one of the keywords for Miller's Crossing was "Homosexual"... what?
Who was gay in Miller's Crossing?
Now, I guess anyone we didn't see actively entertaining sexual thought about the female character could be gay, and everyone else could be bi. But I know I wasn't paying the utmost attention to everything, but I usually make error on the side of seeing gay where there isn't as opposed to not seeing it where it is.
I didn't notice any sort of slight suggestion of any man on man sexy.
They said "queer" a lot, but I was guessing that it meant something different in the 30s, like how does this make sense:
"I'll do what I have to for Bernie and there's no reason for you to try and queer that."
Of course IMDB has keyword Bisexual on Spartacus, but the bisexual isn't suggested to be so really at all in the film unless you include deleted scenes.
But uh, yeah. Did I totally miss something?
I just read a blog about how the character who said he could have sex with his sister was explicitly gay. Does that mean that he couldn't have had sex with his sister?
This all...means...something... |

Bernie, Eddie Dane, and Mink. The love triangle going on between them is just as important to the plot as the one between Tom, Verna, and Leo, even if it's a bit more subtle.

That explains a lot. Miller's Crossing is a movie where a lot of attention needs to be paid.

-"Mink is Eddie Dane's boy."
-When talking to Mink, Tom asks what's going on between him and Bernie, and Mink acts uncomfortable and says "we're just friends, y'know, amigos." Tom says "If Eddie Dane finds out that you got another 'amigo', well, I don't peg him for the understandin' type." and Mink freaks out on him.
-Verna says "Just because he's different, people think he's a degenerate." in reference to Bernie.
-"She even tried to teach me a thing or two about bed artistry. Can you believe that? My own sister! Some crackpot idea about saving me from my friends."
-Tom tells Johnny and the Dane that they find Bernie at the Royal, and that Mink might be with him, adding that they're "cozy as lice, and it ain't just business." The Dane is none too happy about this.
-"Of course, there's always that wild card when love is involved."
-Dane's rage over Mink being killed.
-"Mink was terrified the Dane'd find out me and him were jungled up together."
...and so on and so on. It just goes over a lot of people's heads because it's treated so casually and it's said mostly in arcane slang, but it's not that difficult to figure out.

Verna was trying to de-gay him with some good wholesome heterosexual incest. |

Thanks Barbarian!
Now someone can explain to me why they were throwing rats and buttons at the guy in the movie Oscar and Lucinda or any of the other crazy things that happen in that movie. Or, y'know, I could just watch it from the start and pay attention. |
